Vilnius, Lithuania

We have been here now for 6 months and love it! Kelly and I are enjoying our 1st spring break. We haven't done much this week. We have been on a few walks, watched a lot of TV and we bought some diapers today. I know most of you at home are experiencing a colder than usual winter and so are we. Not just because we were in Bahrain last winter but because Lithuania is also experiencing a colder than usual winter. It hasn't been above freezing since well before Christmas and the last snow we had in December hasn't melted yet. It keeps snowing and keeps building up. My mom asked why they don't shovel off the streets and apparently the economic crisis has hit here as well. The can't afford to clean off the sidewalks. As a matter of fact the city is so low on cash they are turning off street lamps at night. They will turn off a whole block of lights to save money. Hopefully they don't turn ours off! This week was the Lithuanian's version of Ground Hog Day called Shrove Tuesday. The tradition is a fight between a fat man called Winter vs a skinny man named Spring. They battle and whoever wins will decide if spring is coming soon. Then they burn a scare crow. Kind of weird, but fun. They acted this out at our school and as it was snowing, Spring claimed the win..?? We have a little over 8 weeks left until our little one arrives and we can't wait! Then only a few weeks later and my mom will be here to help! We will be home in late June and are looking forward to seeing everyone.
